Mieli del Parco del Beigua

In 2003, the Park Authority started a specific study - entrusted to the University of Pisa - aiming at identifying the properties of the honey types produced in the Park, in order to define their specifications and better enhance their organoleptic features in production and commercial terms.
Three years of study in various areas of Beigua resulted in May 2006 in the drawing up of the specifications, in order to guarantee the best quality and originality of the honey varieties produced in the territory of the Park.
The pollen analyses carried out on the Park honey varieties have highlighted the frequent association of some entomophilous pollen types, like heath and chestnut pollen. This demonstrates that honey is strictly linked to the landscape and represents an excellent indicator of the environmental quality of the territory.
